I have a Suse 9 SP3 64 bit host I've installed gdm via sunray server. The default WM is KDE. What I'd like the login screen to allow is a remote login to any machine eg broadcasting via XDMCP without first logging in to this host. Under CDE, this would be found under options-->remote host. I've already modified gdm.conf with Enable=True Browser=true ChooserButton=true I've restarted X11 but see no difference. ...

Is there a way to create a boot iso cd that will allow you to install any version of the OS? The reason for the question is that I created a boot cd for 10.3, which gave me problems after the install (I am new to OpenSuse). I then tried to install 10.2 using the 10.3 boot cd which failed the checksum, I believe it to be because of the different release versions.
hello I got today the following issue with kdetv. I've changed my sound card from an on board one to an Audigy SE. But I had the unpleasant surprise to see that i have no sound options of kdetv. In kdetv sound options i see the sound card but I can't see any mixer devices to control the sound of my tv tuner. Also the card is working very well in other applications. With the previous card it worked very well. Can anyone give me some hints ...

A friend is using basically Mac to edit a newsletter. Q1. What open-source software can edit pdf files, and, Q2. can this be run on the Mac, somehow. (I know the Mac is running a version of Unix.) I also know that OO can output pdf code, and can be run on Mac, but a fairly long search of Google info does not indicate that OO can edit pdf input.
OK, got the installation to work. I've got three odd issues: 1. ctrl+alt+backspace doesn't kill X any more. 2. When gdm starts, my synaptics touchpad works. After I get logged in and the gnome session manager is running, the touchpad quits working and I can only use the trackpoint device.

Hi, I recently discovered that GKrellM includes client / server capabilities wherein a GKrellM display on one system (the client) can present the information from another (the server). When I learned this, I set up a monitor on my primary system to display the information for my secondary (server) box. Two things have come up for me since I started using it this way: 1) If the server's host is rebooted, the client ...

Just went through the installation here - the installer looks really nice. Unfortunately, after the installation finishes, the result is a simple black screen (no splash or kernel loading happens at all) with the error "Error loading operating system". This is a standard T42p system. I restarted and ran the rescue system, and it didn't detect any significant errors (some of the thinkpad utility packages weren't installed).
Sorry, this might be a dumb question: I built a shared library for an application. I placed it in /usr/local/lib64 and, subsequently, in /usr/local/lib. The application did not find it. Where is the library search path set up so I can add these paths? I would think these paths should be locatable out of the box.
Hi all, Some years ago, I tried KMail and did not like it for various reasons and went to the Netscape/Mozilla packages and eventually to Thunderbird. Generally I am happy with TBird, but during the conversion from PMMail to TBird for my friend, I found it necessary to explore other options for her because TBird simply made it too hard to do the import.
Many many moons ago some one demonstrated a vnc set up with mixed op system icons on the same desktop eg windoze and kde. Will xen do this or is it really intended for server based installations? I'm not sure what to expect if I install it. Also I noted that it will only run xp if the processor supports virtualization.
