I have set up a mailman list called testful with postfix as the MTA. I tried emailing test messages to it from Hotmail, Gmail and some other accounts. All well. But then I tried from my test aim.com and wp.pl/onet.pl (local Polish provider) accounts. And see what happens: aim.com: Mar 29 08:43:53 szalbot postfix/smtpd[75797]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from imo-m19.mx.aol.com[64.12.137.11]: 550 5.1.1 <testful>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table; from=<zbyszekszalbot> to=<testful> proto=ESMTP helo=<imo-m19.mx.aol.com> Mar 29 08:43:53 szalbot postfix/smtpd[75797]: disconnect from imo-m19.mx.aol.com[64.12.137.11] wp.pl: Mar 29 08:46:41 szalbot postfix/smtpd[76022]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from mx1.wp.pl[212.77.101.5]: 550 5.1.1 <testful>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table; from=<z.szalbot> to=<testful> proto=ESMTP helo=<mx1.wp.pl> Mar 29 08:46:41 szalbot postfix/smtpd[76022]: disconnect from mx1.wp.pl[212.77.1 Same with Yahoo. But Gmail is fine: Mar 29 09:23:40 szalbot postfix/cleanup[77179]: 206BB28446: message-id=<94136a2c0803290223l3f53ef65u4d5ea250c06daa3f> Mar 29 09:23:40 szalbot postfix/qmgr[38553]: 206BB28446: from=<zszalbot>, size=2240, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Mar 29 09:23:40 szalbot postfix/smtp[77180]: 8044228444: to=<testful>, relay=127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]:10024, delay=1.1, delays=0.56/0.03/0.01/0.45, dsn=2.6.0, status=sent (250 2.6.0 Ok, id=75252-10, from MTA: 250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as 206BB28446) I made SURE I was sending it to testful but for some unknown reason some providers addressed it to testful. What can be a reason for such a behaviour? This is a test machine but I would like to implement mailman subdomain on a production machine. Can you help me troubleshoot the problem? It does not seem related to postfix rather to DNS issues. I have setup szalbot.homedns.org for test purposes and have reserved mailman.szalbot.homedns.org for mailman mailing lists. Many thanks for your advice! -- Zbigniew Szalbot
