I have been using Postfix version 1 for the past two years on a Sun Blade 100 computer running Solaris 9. It works fine. I am in the process of up-grading the SUN to Solaris 10. At the same time, I am upgrading to Postfix ver 2. I have run into three problems which I can find no solution to. Since I have reverted back to my Version 9 disc, I can't post the full info about my set-up - I'll get that if needed tomorrow. However, I am making very simple use of Postfix and the problems are quite fundamental so that info may not be needed. I did a fresh install of Solaris 10 (a full replacement of the previous system on the disc). This was the 8/07 version of Solaris. The only 'option' of potential relevance is that I elected to restrict access only to 'ssh'. The install went smoothly. I then up-load the 'pkg-add' software from Blastwave.org. Once this was installed, I uploaded and installed a version of Postfix from the 'stable' directory set-up at Blastwave. The installation used a pre-compiled version of Postfix and an automatic install script - no manual interventions. Again, there were no errors noted. I am using the 'master.cf' provided with the installation. 'main.cf has been modified for my domain, etc. The system works fine for sending e-mail. But.. 1) I can not receive any e-mail. When I run Netstat, the 'smtp' entry is 'localhost.smtp', not '*.smtp'. I have tried several variations of main.cf with no effect. 2) When I do a re-boot, the OS attempts to start two copies of Postfix. The second copy gives an error message about the 'pid/master' being unavailable for exclusive use. I have also noticed that, on several occasions after booting, the system attempts to start multiple copies of Postfix, sometimes up to 20+ copies. 3) The 'start' option (Postfix start) won't work. 'Stop' reports that the system has been stopped. But, if I then attempt to do a 'start', the system reports that Postfix is already running. The pid error is also reported. As mentioned, I have done no configuration of Solaris - this is a 'clean' install. Similarly, I moved no files from their default locations and have not tampered with the rc scripts, etc. I have extensively browsed the Postfix.org FAQ's with no success. I did google searches looking for information about this error. I found several reports but they all related to Mac OS/X systems and involved programmes which are not running on Solaris. Any and all help would be VERY much appreciated. Nick Birkett, University of Ottawa, Canada.
