Whenever crond runs a job from /etc/crontab on one of my systems, I get the following error:

Oct 23 05:40:12 ukmawwbackup01 postfix/postdrop[22246]: warning: uid=0: Illegal seek
Oct 23 06:40:12 ukmawwbackup01 postfix/sendmail[22244]: fatal: root(0): queue file write error
Oct 23 06:40:12 ukmawwbackup01 crond[22239]: (root) MAIL (mailed 32619273 bytes of output but got status 0x004b )

If I send a mail from the command line, using "mail" as root sending to root (which is alised to the address seen below), it works:

Oct 22 11:42:58 ukmawwbackup01 postfix/pickup[22128]: C46FC43B840: uid=0 from=<root>
Oct 22 11:42:58 ukmawwbackup01 postfix/cleanup[22156]: C46FC43B840: message-id=<20071022104258.C46FC43B840>

Postfix (2.3.8) is not running chrooted according to master.cf; postconf -n is as follows:

command_directory = /usr/sbin
config_directory = /etc/postfix
daemon_directory = /usr/lib/postfix
global_config_directory = /etc/postfix
html_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.3.8/html
inet_interfaces = all
mail_owner = postfix
mailq_path = /usr/bin/mailq
manpage_directory = /usr/share/man
mynetworks_style = host
newaliases_path = /usr/bin/newaliases
queue_directory = /var/spool/postfix
readme_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.3.8/README_FILES
relayhost = 128.98.2.2
sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix
setgid_group = postdrop
smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name ($mail_version) (Mandriva Linux)
unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 450

Any ideas as to why crond mail is failing like this?

Mark.
