Just to follow up and cap this whole thread off, its absolutely the postfix-ldap package that is calling libsasl2. I built the package from source, turning off cyrus-sasl support, and the errors vanished. I filed a Debian bug to voice an appeal for having the libsasl2 files added to the default /var/spool/postfix chroot tree, since it seems to me that if they are going to include libsasl2 support the included file structure should ideally fully support it without throwing errors in a fairly standard configuration. I'll see where that leads. Meanwhile, my problem is solved. Thanks Wietse and everyone for the patience and bandwidth! Here is the link to the Debian bug for reference: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=426338 -- Mark Edwards
