Is it possible to make postfix (if it is the one which uses it) use a
.forward file from a not standard place?

What i want to do, is allow my virtual users (well, sort of virtual,
they are real local users from the point of an application using pam and
nss, but they are taken from ldap and authenticated by kerberos) to have
vacation functionality, but since they don't have home directories, they
can't call the vacation program from their .forward file.

A php script (users has only web and webmail access to the system) could
create a /vacation/%user/.forward file containing the necessary
settings, if i could tell postfix to look for it at the right place.
