Currently if a command crashes, the email is bounced. Is there a reason
why this is preferred to a temporary failure? If not, could this be
changed?

My mail delivery agent isn't perfect yet and it assert-crashes
sometimes. A second try will almost certainly work, so there's no reason
to bounce the mail.
