My applescript is:

| tell application "Firefox"
| OpenURL "www.google.com"
| end tell

In firefox, I have already set it to open in a new tab for external
programs. Actually I tried opening some links from skype, it works as
expected, links are opened in a new tab. But when calling from
applescript, it will open a new window every time.
