Can someone help me with this browser?

I am just learning how to program and tried hooking up a GPS to my pc
through a serial port. Windows intermittently decides to call my GPS
another mouse and they both start "talking" to my pc at the same
time, moving the pointer here, there, left clicking, right clicking,
etc.

Do you realize how much possible damage could happen in such little
time by pseudo-random inputs?

Anyhow, one of my issues is that 1/8th of the bottom of my FF browser
under the status bar is blank with the exception of a red ^ on the
left side.

I have tried moving this object?, uninstalling and reinstalling FF,
and even given it the evil eye all to no avail. I did find out (if
this helps) that the red ^ changes the pointer to a text pointer when
I mouseover it, but then reverts back to the pointer througout the
rest of this big box of nothing.
