Sounds like you immediate problem might be with a Firewall. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls I can't get through to know if that article would be of help, but basically the problem is that your new installation of Firefox has to be known to the Firefox, so delete the old name/location from the Firewall and let it know of the new one. Some things that can slow things down. - Ads, suggest installing "Adblock" or "Adblock Plus" extension - Cache History, suggest clearing out, I actually use a .bat file myself, but to through Firefox use Tools, Options, Privacy, Settings (button) only check cache, OK [x] Ask before clearing private data Clear Now (button) - Avoid the problematic extensions, unless you really need them. Would certainly avoid useless extensions, many of which are very large. Think twice before installing extension larger than 32KB download, really think before installing anything any extension that is over 150KB to download. - If you installed the Google Toolbar or Yahoo toolbar or any third part search toolbar then get rid of it (uninstall or at least disable). If you installed them you probably did not read what you are accepting beforehand -- some of those default options will really slow you down. The builtin Search Bar is much better, suggest you add "Add to Search Bar" extension to make things easier. Check the following MozillaZine KB articles (all had timeouts at site) http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions http://kb.mozillazine.org/Memory_Leak http://kb.mozillazine.org/Reducing_memory_usage_(Firefox) If PageDn, PageUp, SpaceBar do not move down or up page then hit F7 to turn off caret browsing. For some specifics on things that have impacted users or generated a lot of questions concerning FF 2. http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm#fx2 For more information on any of the above, particularly for any Extensions (#ext). I mentioned see my site. -- David McRitchie, most questions have been asked before.
