Haven't you ever seen pens with a real nib? Aren't they available Down Under anymore? Have they ever been, for that matter? Here in Europe, they are for sale in all department stores, especially end August - begin September (when classes start) but also at other times of the year; and, of course, more elegant pens are for sale in "smaller" stores. I admit I don't use a goose quill, and never did, unlike Harry Potter. ;-) I did learn writing using a nib pen, with a steel nib, which wasn't a fountain pen but had to be dipped in an inkpot. What's wrong with that? Yes, it was 50 years ago; but I still believe that nib pens ("fountain" or otherwise) have more "class" than ballpoints.
