Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1252 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit This summer I worked on for wikipeida (paid for by google soc) to extend mediaWiki’s functionality to support the embedding of ogg audio/video streams. Currently it uses a java or vlc based browser plugin to render in-line ogg media http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Embed_Media We at wikipedia and other open media (open coalition http://openmediacoalition.org/index.php/Main_Page) projects feel it would be ideal if firefox had native support for ogg theora playback. To that end we have detailed the features of a browser component http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Firefox_Ogg_Support and started working with the VLC developers towards that end. There are likely elements that could be supported from the Mozilla side of development but the technical details have not been fully established. Taking advantage of the vlc architecture we aim to enable client side conversion to ogg theora for uploading ogg files or live ogg streams from the browser. Also we hope to enable things like DOM level access to embedded xml in the ogg stream (using cmml) http://www.annodex.net/TR/draft-pfeiffer-cmml-01.html These extended features are part of the larger project of making the mozilla platform more multimedia friendly. We will continue development on the browser plug-in/extension with the above mentioned feature set and rally for its inclusion into firefox. If any mozilla developers are interested come by #videolan or email me. If there are resources to further this goal or if Mozilla is interested in making it part of the set of browser technologies that they support we would be *interested* in hearing about the process. --michael _______________________________________________ general mailing list general https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/general
